Onyx Lounge is a secret upstairs hideaway in the heart of Newtown on King Street. An extensive range of international and local beers, wines and ciders are on offer but its their signature cocktails on offer that their known for.
Blood Orange Margarita $15.90
Sweet and tart this stunning cocktail was made with tequila, triple sec, and a very aromatic blood orange syrup.
Dark Chocolate Passionfruit Martini $15.90
Probably my favourite drink on the menu. The combination of chocolate and passion fruit is altogether rich and refreshing. Made with Vodka, Choc Liquor, Ruby Grapefruit and Passion Fruit. Definitely one to try.
Deep Fried Brie Bites
As amazing as you can imagine. One bite into the crispy golden crust and the melted cheese comes oozing out. Creamy, gooey, great!
Fondue Chorizo Cheese and Tomato $14
Grilled slices of fiery chorizo are smothered in a cheesey sauce and mixed with vibrant capsicum pieces. Served with warm flour tortillas pieces. These little dippers were a great start to the meal.
Salt’n’Pepper Calamari $16
Crispy little golden nuggets of tender squid are served with roasted garlic aioli & chipotle chilli sauce. Perfect casual drinking food to share.
We were told these were spicy when we ordered them so I was eager to see just how hot these were when they came out. They were hot! But not overpowering. The salsa was flavoursome, delicately coating the soft flour tortillas that were wrapped around tender marinated shredded chicken. I like the addition of the crumbed fetta cheese, giving a salty creaminess to the traditional Mexican dish.
Pork Belly $28
Super crunchy crackling dominated this substantial dish, served with sautéed onions, potatoes and bacon bits to bring it all together. The pork belly was generously plated and nicely cooked, drizzled with a spicy sweet tomato chilli jam.
Lets just say these 2 hungry guys left satisfied with very full bellies.
