Cho Cho San, Potts Point

Cho Cho San is a hub for good food and eager diners and Sydney’s trendiest interpretation of a modern Tokyo izakaya. Decked out in clean minimal esthetic the vibe is casual and chic seemingly preferring to let the food do all the wowing, and boy does it ever!

Sydney Rock Oysters, Dashi $14

Oysters on the menu always equates to oysters in my belly. These ones were beautifully fresh and plump with a smooth creamy and slightly metallic taste that Sydney rock oysters are so well know for. Add the dashi for a lovely savoury umami flavour.

Pork Katsu Steam Bun (ea) $8

Like little clouds these delicious pork treats are a wonderful contrast of soft airy buns with crispy meaty port and crunchy cucumber. A great way to start off the meal.

DSC06930Petuna Ocean Trout, Black Pepper, Wasabi $20

A trout made famous by Tetsuya’s signature dish, Cho Cho San have gone in a more simplified direction really bringing out the freshness of these gorgeously marbled pieces. The creamy delicate flavour works really well with the strong flavour of the wasabi. A stellar dish for a sashimi glutton (like me).

Udon Noodles, Pork, Chilli $15

My favourite dish of the night! The udon are thick and soft, covered in the most mouth watering, spicy pork and chilli bolognese-like sauce. Seriously this is a top dish and one that I will gladly order again.

Soy Glazed Wagyu Beef $36

Another tremendous dish, the beef is cooked to perfection and is melt-in-your-mouth tender due to its high marbling rating. I really loved the sticky soy glaze which was both savoury and sweet.

DSC06946 Steamed Yuzu Pudding $12

First desert was a really tasty steamed yuzu pudding. Light and airy, the intense citrus flavour is perfectly balanced by the dollop of sour creme.

Green Tea Soft-Serve, Waffle Cone 6

Not usually a fan of green tea flavoured things but Cho Cho San seemed to have nailed it. With the perfect balance of creaminess and that distinctive green tea flavour all that usual bitterness is eliminated leaving a very satisfying dessert to devour.

I can’t say enough how impressed I was with Cho Cho San. The food, the vibe and the service were all spectacular. Check it out for a casual catch up or even a special occasion.
