The Potting Shed is the latest addition to the ever expanding Grounds of Alexandria. A late-night bar and eatery, beautifully decked out in a laidback, open planned, garden theme.
The exterior and walkways around The Potting Shed were equally as impressive as the décor inside. Follow the signs, lined potted walkways, garden gear and outdoor lighting to the front entrance.
Is this not magical?
Unlike The Grounds, The Potting Shed has a bar. Opened till midnight, they’ve got an extensive cocktail list and wine menu to choose from.
Much like The Grounds of Alexandria’s famous Kevin Bacon, The Potting Shed features a bright blue and yellow macaw called Fluffy, who sits on top of his cage, squawking at diners.
The Potting Shed’s design is by Vince Alafaci and Caroline Choker from Acme&Co.
Slow cooked grain-fed Angus short Rib with sweet and sour glaze, spiced eggplant ($23)
The slow cooked grain-fed Angus Short Rib was phenomenally succulent! The neat and generously portioned fat-marbled slices are melt in your mouth good and coated in a sticky sweet and sour sauce. The meat sits on top of a bed of spiced eggplant and onions that are so soft and silky they may as well be a sauce or dip to smother your meat in. Topped of with some micro herbs and crispy garlic chips this was a really tasty dish!
Charcoal-grilled Holmbrae 1/2 chicken amongst fenugreek, coriander, walnuts, pomegranate, cucumber, radish and grains ($28)
Great dish! After being cooked for three hours sous vide, the chicken is then crisped to perfection on a bed of hot charcoal. This give the chicken a great smokey flavour while still keeping it tender and juicy. The chicken rests on a bed of flavoursome grains and is accompanied by a zesty salad of shaved cucumber, radishes and pomegranate. This is an excellent dish to share.
The food is by head chef Kahlil Rogers-Perazzo who’s resume includes notable restaurants such as Tetsuya, Quay and Pilu. The menu sits on a fantastically designed copper clip board with either a spade or hoe as the clip. The menu itself is produce driven with a large portion of plates designed for sharing. Individual meals are also generously portioned.
Imagine dinning in a garden. Designed like a greenhouse, tables are situated under hanging planters, among planter boxes, tall shrubs, lush greenery, copper pipes and garden tools. There is even a hanging timber swing for your enjoyment.
The Potting Shed is a one of a kind. Perfect for after work drinks, casual lunches or romantic diners.
