Paramount Coffee Project on Commonwealth Street, Surry Hills is brought to you by Reuben Hills’ Russell Beard and Mark Dundon of Melbourne’s Seven Seeds. Located in the foyer space of Paramount House, this joint venture is a winner. Channelling an industrial feel with beautiful high ceilings, polished concrete, timber benches, communal tables and delicious food.
Start your morning off with a milkshake. A perfectly created chocolate and orange flavour milkshake to be exact.
Crab Po Boy – Soft Shelled Crab, House Slaw, Onion Rings, Milk Bun
A slightly different take on the traditional Po Boy. The Crab (and there was a lot of it) was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I did find the slaw a touch too bland and I’m really not sure if I liked the round milk bun as it made the dish less Po Boy and more overgrown slider. The onion rings were cooked to crunchy perfection; however, I do wish they provided me with a smidge more mayo.
Elvis in Cuba – Pork, Kimchi, Bacon, Kewpie, Swiss cheese, Onion Ring and Pickle with a side of Chicharan
Where to start with this glorious experience? Pork, bacon, kimchi, pickles, cheese…umm did I mention bacon?! This dish was truly one of those moments where you take a bite and just phase out of whatever else is happening. Despite the dish’s less-than-beautiful look the all the flavours just seem to work together. Make sure you get the chicharan on the side – basically deep fried pork crackling, these crispy, chewy little morsels aren’t ones to miss.
Sticky Chicken – Sweet and Sour Fried Chicken with Peanuts
If you think KFC is finger lickin’ good, wait till you try these. Crispy southern fried chicken covered in a spicy sticky sauce. They come piping hot in a chicken take away bag and are superbly flavoursome and moist. Here’s a tip. Throw the peanuts in the bag and shake the whole thing for a couple of seconds. They coat the chicken and add a really great flavour and texture. Yum!!
Jam, Glazed and Cinnamon Cronuts
The Paramount Coffee Project is perfect for a lazy weekend brunch. The atmosphere is relaxed, slick and modern and you can definitely say they have some interesting things to try here!
